The COVID-19 pandemic has taken its toll, depriving us of our May 3, 2020 Bass Classic. This tournament and its predecessors (Have A Heart and Fallen Firefighters Memorial) managed to survive economic downturns, bad weather, fuel shortages, wars and many other threats. And this year coronavirus thinks it has won – BUT… while it has succeeded in preventing us from gathering, it will never keep Bass Classic anglers, sponsors, advertisers, volunteers and supporters from accomplishing OUR PURPOSE, which transcends a simple day of fishing!
As we practice social distancing and sheltering in place, we are forced to postpone all child trip activity, event-based fundraising and public engagements. But for families awaiting their trip, POSTPONEMENT DOES NOT MEAN CANCELLATION— it only means that our GRATIFICATION is DELAYED, and once all is safe we will resume making dreams come true full speed! The Bass Classic is about MAKING A DIFFERENCE in the lives of hurting children and families, and TOGETHER we can RISE TO THAT CALLENGE WITHOUT MAKING A SINGLE CAST.
Many of our sponsors and all of our advertisers are dedicated to our mission, and have declared themselves ALL IN despite the cancellation of on-water activities. We will still publish the Souvenir Program, and have created new digital ways to provide even greater public exposure and recognition for these sponsors and advertisers. With their help, we are making progress toward our typical net proceed of $60,000.
It’s up to us to do the rest. COVID-19 may be wreaking havoc in everyday life, but it is no match for our BASS CLASSIC FAMILY! We don’t have options in many aspects of life right now, but there are LOTS of ways we CAN make sure it doesn’t take away from the children and families that we serve:
Buy a Jersey — Donate what we would have paid for registration, or gas for the boat – Or make a donation of any size! TOGETHER, all of us in the BASS CLASSIC FAMILY can MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
